Abstract
In order to investigate the effects of Ginseng Radix Aqua-acupuncture prepared by three methods on immune suppression induced by methotrexate (MTX), daily Ginseng Radix Aqua-acupuncture prepared by distillation & water-alcohol method, water-alcohol method and extraction method into the loci corresponding Choksamni (%,) of the human body to mouse was done for 8 days and NITX was administered for 4 days from the 5th experimental day.
The mice were sensitized i.v. with 5x10¢¥ sheep red blood cells (SRBC) on the 5th day, and thereafter challenged i.d. with 2 x 10¢¥ SRBC on the 8th day. Delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), rosette forming cells (RFC) for cell-mediated immune response and hemagglutinin (HA) titers for humoral immune response were measured at 24 hours after challenge. Phagocytic activity of reticuloendothelial system (RES) was studied by using the carbon clearance in mice.
The results were summarized as follows:
1) DTH was increased with the statistical significance in all cases of the Ginseng radix Aquaacupuncture prepared by distillation &: water-alcohol method, water-alcohol method and extraction method, in ca nparison with the MTX administered group.
2) IZFC were increased significantly in the Ginseng Radix Aqua-acupuncture prepared by extraction method and water-alcohol method but there was no significant increase in the case of Ginseng Radix AquaacupLncture prepared by distillation & water-alcohol method.
3) lIA titers were increased in the Ginseng Radix Aqua acupuncture prepared by water-alcohol method and Extraction method but there was no valuable incre se in the case of Ginseng Radix Aqua-acupuncture prepa -ed by distillation & water-alcohol method in comp; trison with the MTX administered group.
4) ¢¥.I¢¥he phagocytic activity of reticuloendothelial system was increased in the Ginseng Radix Aquaacupu lcture prepared by water-alcohol method, extraction r iethod and distillation & water-alcohol method excep for K,_, carbon clearance as compared with the contra; l group.
Acc: )rding to the above results the therapy of the Ginser g Radix Aqua-acupunture especially prepared by distills tion & water-alcohol method and water-alcohol metho l on Choksamni loci enhances the¢¥ cell-mediated and hi imoral immune response suppressed by MTX in mice a nd increases the phagocytic activity of reticuloendothel al system, and also improves the host defence mechanism but it is suggested that the Aqua-acupuncture 4 Ginseng Radix may be requested more experiments and researches for clinical use.
